Windows 101 by AMSCO: Energy Tax Breaks
Windows 101

AMSCO Windows makes it easy to qualify for the Energy Efficiency Tax Credit.

The recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 include federal tax credits that encourage homeowners to make energy efficient improvements to their homes. Replacing windows and doors with qualified energy efficient AMSCO products will meet the requirements for this tax credit!

Nearly all AMSCO products already meet or exceed federal ENERGY STAR guidelines. Now, you may qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $1,500 under the new stimulus program when you install qualified energy-efficient AMSCO windows and doors. At AMSCO, we’re committed to providing you with durable, high-performance products that bring lasting value to your home. Your authorized AMSCO Windows Dealer will help you choose the windows and doors that give you the personalized look you desire – and the energy efficiency you need.

Tax Credit Highlights for Windows and Doors
  • Homeowners can gain a tax credit of 30 percent of the cost of qualifying energy-efficient upgrades to a maximum of $1,500 per household for 2009 and 2010.
  • Windows or doors purchased must both have a U-Value and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower.
  • The purchase of the qualified windows must be made during the taxable year for which the credit is being claimed.
  • The credit is only allowed on the price of the qualified windows or doors and not on installation costs or sales tax.
  • The tax credit is allowable only for qualified window or door units placed in service in 2009 and 2010.
How to Qualify for the Tax Credit Sample NFRC performance label
  1. Purchase and install a qualifying AMSCO window or door beginning January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. The window or door must have both a U-Value and SHGC of 0.30 or lower.
  2. Save your sales receipt and each NFRC window or door performance label (sample label seen to the right) with your tax documents.
  3. Download and save the AMSCO Manufacturer's Certification Statement here.
  4. Claim the tax credit associated with your qualifying purchase on your Federal filing for the 2009 and/or 2010 tax year.
Qualifying AMSCO Products

Look for More Rebates or Incentives
Check with your local utility companies or city municipality to see if they offer any rebates or know of any in your area. Be sure to follow their guidelines in requesting any rebates. For any rebate requests, be sure to keep the NFRC performance labels and purchase receipt. Provide these to the entity offering the rebate if required or to your tax preparer at the end of the year.

Because AMSCO ships product to multiple states and locations, AMSCO does not maintain any records of locally-available rebates or tax incentives provided by third-parties.
